    CALL FOR ENTRIES

    INTELLIGENT USE OF WATERFILM FESTIVAL
    Sponsored by Rain Bird
Now is your opportunity to help raise awareness of the need to conserve and protect water. Create a short film proposing an intelligent way to manage and efficiently use the earth's most precious resource. Submit your entry by August 15, 2007. Finalists will be presented at a screening event in Los Angeles, and cash prizes total $9,000.
Water may seem like the most abundant resource on earth. But only 1% of it is fresh water — the only portion that is currently usable for human consumption. Another 2% is held in snow and icebergs, and the rest is saltwater.
More demands are being placed on the little water that is available to humans. At the current rate of population growth, the United Nations predicts that more than 2.7 billion people will face severe shortages of water by 2025. And it's not just a problem for developing countries: even in the U.S., 36 states are already facing water shortages and mandatory water conservation measures.

The Intelligent Use of Water™ Film Competition seeks short films
(1-20 minutes in actual or excerpted run time) that focus on the topic of water conservation. Narrative, documentary, animated, experimental and/or student-made productions should explore approaches and ideas to intelligently manage and efficiently utilize the earth's most precious resource.

Films, which may be submitted (in English) on DVD, VHS or electronic format, will be reviewed by a panel of judges with academic, professional, industrial or governmental expertise in film and/or water conservation. Finalists will be selected and invited to a screening event on October 13, 2007, in Los Angeles at The Los Angeles County Arboretum & Botanic Garden, where the winners will be announced. Cash prizes of $6,000 for judges' selection and $3,000 for audience's pick.
