“Becky’s By The Sea”, in St. James, Barbados
Brooklyn, New York (June 14, 2006) – In May 2004, longtime Bedford-Stuyvesant resident, Davette P. Reid, opened, the “home away from home” vacation villa, “Becky’s by the Sea” (named after her mother), in St. James Barbados. It was a typical coral stone house that was wonderfully converted to a magnificent, contemporary, vacation villa, spoiled with all of the modern day amenities. As Davette explains, “Becky’s offers you the feel of Martha’s Vineyard and Sag Harbor, but in the Caribbean and sunny all year round.”
Becky’s is perfectly situated for play and relaxation, just steps from the beach in quaint Fitts Village. The coral stone villa is set apart by its tranquil atmosphere, unique offerings and truly idyllic setting. A sanctuary of privacy and peace, “Becky’s by the Sea” has the air of a private home and the charm of a small inn with modern-day amenities and impeccable service that capture the elegant graces of the Barbadian culture.
This bi-level villa, which is rented as one unit, has three bedrooms with housekeeping services, a cook (if desired), air conditioning, ceiling fans, two bathrooms, and outdoor shower, a fully equipped kitchen, dining room and living room with an entertainment center, and much, much more. Sit at the beautiful bay window or lounge on the sun drenched deck that neighbors call “the big thing on top of the white house” and capture breathtaking view of the Caribbean Sea.
As an entrepreneur, Davette is also in the business of “giving back”. In the spirit of cooperative economics she has created more than a vacation spot for her many guests, but a vehicle to cross promote other small businesses, as well. “It just makes sense to help each other,” says Reid. “Imagine our financial health if we as a people did that more often”. Davette offers product placements to local and international small businesses.
Davette is definitely focused on the real estate game, only her sights have gone from the village of Bedford-Stuyvesant, where she resides in the Brownstone her Barbadian grandmother purchased in the early 1900’s to Fitts Village, Barbados. Ms. Reid’s first guests at “Becky’s by the Sea” were her Bedford-Stuyvesant neighbors (whom she didn’t know prior) who have returned twice and encouraged several of their friends to stay at the villa, as well. There have been long standing histories of immigration and family ties, especially between Barbados and Bedford-Stuyvesant. And generations later, these same families are returning to their Caribbean Roots, in more ways than one.
