As Seen In San Francisco Chronicle By Linda Murphy Thursday, March 23, 2006THE CHRONICLE’S WINE SELECTIONS Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon under $50 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon can cost $75, $100, $150 per bottle -- or more -- depending on a number of factors, including image, scarcity, ageability, the celebrity of the owner or winemaker and, most significant, high scores from critics. Thankfully, a number of Napa producers sell fine Cabernet for less than $50. For many of us, that’s still a lot to spend for a bottle of wine, yet there are values to be found in this category. TWO STARS
2002 Black Coyote Bates Creek Vineyard Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon ($30) Lively aromas of boysenberry, chocolate, cedar and mint lead to a palate of juicy boysenberry fruit, spice and a hint of menthol. The texture is plush yet clean, and the wine finishes with lively acidity. Join us at these special events as we pour Black Coyote Wines!Uncorked! 2003 Black Coyote Cabernet Sauvignon Stags Leap District | 2004 Black Coyote Chardonnay Monterey County | |
| | | Winemaker Notes: This classic, rich, and ruby-red 2003 Black Coyote Stags Leap District Cabernet Sauvignon has a very approachable nose, delivering an abundance of black fruits, spice, a touch of fennel, and smoky oak. The palate presents bright Bing cherries, cocoa powder, and undertones of cedar. It responds positively to aeration, which then results in delicate rhubarb, ripe plums, and a subtle, extended finish of Mole. | Marco DiGuilio’s Winemaker Notes: The 2004 Black Coyote Chardonnay, Monterey County, is a stunning sipper, displaying a brilliant yellow, citrine sparkle in the glass. Noticeable Bosc pear, and sweet cream on the nose, the palate follows through with added Mandarin orange, brown sugar nutmeg, and a toasty oak finish that lingers on the palate.
| Wine and Food Pairing: This Cabernet would pair perfectly with Barbeque Pulled Pork or any hearty beef dish. | Wine and Food Pairing: Enjoy with a Sesame Seared Ahi in a mango avocado salsa. | 2400 Third Avenue Napa, CA 94558 Phone (707) 252 - 2292 * Fax (707) 259 - 5395 info@blackcoyotewines.com
